What is a proxy server?
A proxy server is a server that services requests between the client and the source.

How does it work?
A basic example is a client requiring access to a web page on a different server. The diagram below shows how the proxy server acts as an intermediary.

Why use a proxy server?
There are a number of reasons you may wish to use a proxy:

Surf anonymously for security and secrecy.To bypass security and parental controls ie if you are blocked from Facebook, Twitter, Bebo, Ebay ...Circumvent geographical restrictions by selecting a proxy server with a different regional IP address.
